Brendan O’Neal - Percussion

Brendan O’Neal currently teaches instrumental music at Southwest Academy Middle School in Baltimore County, Maryland. He has experience teaching wind ensemble, percussion ensemble,
orchestra, marching band, and guitar. Since 2021 he has worked with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s OrchKids youth program, and now he looks forward to serving the music community at Opus Community School.
Mr. O’Neal earned his Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Towson University with a focus in classical percussion, studying with Mark Craig and Dr. Michelle Humphreys, and specializing in marimba. At Towson he was section leader in Dr. Cicconi’s wind ensemble and a performer with the percussion ensemble and the world music ensemble. He also took jazz drum set lessons with Frank Russo.
Mr. O’Neal has an extensive background in marching percussion. He has performed on snare drum with the Jersey Surf World Class Drum Corps, the Hawthorne Caballeros Drum and Bugle Corps, and Imperial Dynasty Indoor Percussion. Along with independent groups, he was also a member of the Towson University Marching Band and the Mighty Sound of Maryland (UMD). He has previously taught marching percussion for Urbana, Century, and Mount Saint Joseph High Schools.
